Welcome

This is the Wellington District Theatre Federation.

We are a branch of the New Zealand Theatre Federation Inc., covering all of the Wellington, Hutt Valley, Horowhenua, Porirua, Kapiti and Wairarapa regions. We have the largest membership of any District, including around 20 full (theatre society) and associate (school) members, as well as many more individual members.

We are a non-profit organisation, whose services include theatre festivals, workshops and other theatre-related events.

Theatre NZ Conference Workshops

Workshop A - Character Development - Toby Papazoglou - Drama Studio 02

Toby is Toi Whakaari's Head of Management. He has a Toi/Vic Master in Theatre Arts in Directing and has worked as a freelance director, designer, manager and lecturer.

• Stanislavski basics - given circumstances and objectives/super objectives.
• Hot seating - devised work to apply to a script
• Basic Animal work - using animals for understanding and physicality of character

Workshop B - Voice & The Actor - Perry Piercy - Drama Studio 03

Perry is a trained teacher and voice coach, and an award winning actor and director. She has taught in London and Singapore, and in New Zealand at Toi Whakaari, UCOL, WPC and Vic.

Participants need to have learnt some rich text - Shakespeare or Chekov for example, but other satisfying text will be okay too. Wear comfortable clothes.

We will warm up together, using Fitzmaurice Voice techniques, activating resonance in the body and encouraging flexibility and responsivity in the voice.

We will explore the selected texts together looking for opportunities to allow the voice to reveal character and intention, and we'll look at how our voices are received by the audience.

Workshop C - Physical Theatre & Mime - Fergus Aitken - Drama Studio 01

Fergus is an international award-winning entertainer, with three decades of experience in performing and teaching, nationally and internationally. His specialties include physical theatre, mime, circus skills and stand-up comedy.

Workshop D - Set conceptualisation - Anna Lowe - Drama Studio 06

Anna is one of Wellington's most talented and accomplished set designers, much in demand for community theatre productions around the region.

Set designing from whoa to go - from the initial ideas of what the play's set requirements are, through to developing a 3-dimensional set using modern computer technology.
